Should I change CPU?

Hello everybody I currently have a question as to changing my processor, I currently have an i5 3470 at stock clock speed, cooled by an Hyper 212 evo.

 

I was at my local pc part place and they keep all their old stuff, so I saw an old i7 4820k and an Asus P9X79 Pro board, and 16gb of some cheap ddr3 1600mhz ram. All together for 300 dollars.

I'm just wondering if I should take the deal, and if it will be a high improvement over the i5 i have now and the 12gb ram I have, or should I save up more for a newer skylake i5? I am using a GTX 980 Amp! card btw, and I also want to know if my i5 I currently have is bottlenecking my card.

yes do it yes it does  bottleneck depending on the game

That's a good deal. Should be able to use all 28GB of RAM if the mobo supports it

Depends on what you intend to do, if it's just gaming it won't be a big improvement, you could get into skylake or kaby lake for about 400 and get a much better system not to mention warranty support.

Ehh, the 4820K is an Ivy quad core with Hyperthreading and some extra PCI-E lanes (and quad channel DDR3). A 3770K will net you about the same as far as performance goes without necessitating the board swap.

but yeah in a lot of games 3770K is better lol

Userbenchmark says 3770K is 2% faster than 4820K and the 4700K is about 7% better. 4820K was not as big of a jump as the 5820K

I agree with the above, frame rate increases will be minimal. I would would wait to see how the release of the Kaby Lake CPUs changes the used prices of 6600ks and 6700ks. Otherwise, you are just jumping from a dated cpu to a slightly less dated cpu.

 

On a slide note, I just got my younger brother a 4590, 16 gbs of ram, and an Asrock fatality mobo for $180 off craigslist, if you want to save for sli 980s (which used seem to be about $250)
