Well if you want to overclock get the 4670k but you will also need a z87 mobo and cpu cooler, all this will increase cost.

Is the only difference between these two models the unlocked multiplier on the K-SKU? Or is there something else I should know before deciding which to buy?

If you don't want to overclock, get i7:

Xeon E3-1230v3

it's exactly the same as i7 4770 (no overclocking) except Xeon also doesnt have integrated graphics.

you should consider i5 4670k (if you overclock), or Xeon E3-1230v3 (if you dont want to overclock).

the unlocked multiplier and the need of an aftermarket cooler and z87 mobo. if you don`t OC don`t buy the 4670 either get the 4570

If I'm not overclocking (which is likely as I'm not too experienced in that area), why should I go with the 4570 over the 4670? Just price reasons?

Wolfur, I cannot go for the Xeon chip you suggest since my local store doesn't deal with Xeon's and I'd prefer not to buy online if at all possible.

because its cheaper and does the same thing. 200mhz is nothing. if you go with 4670 might as well get the K one.or the xeon Wolfur recommended . its an i7

Alright, thanks for the help guys. Going with the 4570 and a Maxumus VI Hero board.

If you are going for that mobo I would highly suggest getting a 4670k, you might not want to overclock it immediatly but you maybe will in the future.

I'd get something like the MSI H87 G43. The Asus H87 boards have that uber ugly gold color scheme but the choice is up to you. :D

But then again the H87 variant of this board costs pretty much the same as the Z87, depending on where you live.

who cares...

An Asus ROG board is kind of overkill unless you are overclocking or need their onboard audio (which I don't really think is that much better). I would just go for a cheaper board with decent PCIe expansion.

That Xeon is really the best choice here, just buy the board locally and order the Xeon online. The amount of performance you will get with the xeon (as long as you dont care about overclocking) is well worth the hassle of buying online.

there are cheaper boards that can do that very well

Yeah I know. I just have to say something good about it so I seem unbiased.

I honestly think ROG boards are massively overpriced and there are many other options out there. Unless you need ALL the features of the board (which is pretty uncommon) you can pretty much always find a board to better suit your needs.
