Buying a 1080p TV for Console Gaming

Jonathan W

A friend of mine plays only on his Xbox 1 and is dead set on getting a 4K TV, I tried to talk him out of it as I do not believe he will like the experience but he's stubborn so I said "screw it, it's your money" lol He does plan to get an Xbox 1s and cable tv in our area will be going 4K capable in the relatively near future

So my annoying friend has decided to actually listen to me and not buy a 4K TV yet. especially since he has NO hardware that will support 4K or take advantage of it. So now we are on the hunt for a 1080p or 1440p TV that is 60-65" and will provide him a nice smooth gaming experience. His TV now gives him a lot of color blur as dark objects move quickly around a bright screen

So he has a few requirements:

- 4K upscaling for gaming [i've told him to get Project Scorpio when it drops]

- 1080p or 1440p Display

- 1000USD budget

- 65 inch diagonal or more

- Good as possible gaming experience [He won't understand how it could be better to game on a monitor despite my numerous attempts to explain it to him]

Note: I will update THIS post and make a note in the thread in case anything changes as far as requirements

Thanks!

I have the LG 65UH6150 and I have no complaints after having for half a year. I wish the remote was LG's magic one but the one it ships with is still fine and doesn't subtract from the experience. Right now it is $1097 on Best Buy (regular price is $1300) so if there is one nearby or it can be shipped to you I would pick it up. Good Luck!

I assume you do console gaming on it? How's the refresh rate? Motion blur? Viewing angles?

I have an Xbox One S hooked up to it and have played through a couple games on it. It's a 60hz panel so its nothing too special but for console gaming it is perfectly fine. Motion Blur was one of the reasons I got it, it has pretty good motion handling and viewing angles are ample due to its IPS panel. One thing is that I have it set up in a social area in my house so I have never seen how it looks in a dark room. But I do know that in a well-lit room it works fine

Would you mind trying it in a dark room for me? Maybe posting a pic or two? Just so we can both see how it performs

I'll try, its in a pretty open area so it might be hard to get rid of all the light in that area but I will try. I'll do it when I get home, I only saw this when I just left

$1000 will not get you a good 65" panel I'm afraid, you get what you paid for basically.

If willing to go down in size, get the Samsung KU7000, or one of the best budget 4k TV, the Sony X800D 49", or X850D

65'' for 1000$ will be tough to find, I'd advise the Samsung KU6000 for its good price tag and more than decent quality.

1080p is good only up to 40 inches, more than that and it'll start losing a lot pixel density losing image quality, your friend really needs such a huge screen?
