I don't think application method has changed much. Dot in the middle and let the cooler do the spreading. Subject to opinion though.

Just apply a pea-sized amount, and let the mounting pressure do the work.

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

ICDiamond or Artic MX-4 is one of the best. The difference will be a few degrees. Pea sized drop on middle and let it spread automatically by the cooler pressing on with the cpu.

Line, pea, spread--doesn't really matter. There's a reason why it's still being argued.

The amount you use matters more than how you apply it.

Use the full tube, and make a nice, 3mm thick line all the way around the outside edge of the CPU.

spread method makes air bubbles air bubbles are bad, pea shaped not sized dot in the center and let the cooler spread, line is acceptable too.

I use the grain of rice method with Noctua NT-H1. Works really well.

I ordered 1.5 grams of IC Diamond, how much should I apply?

A pea or uncooked grain of rice amount.

spread method makes air bubbles air bubbles are bad, pea shaped not sized dot in the center and let the cooler spread, line is acceptable too.

The tight mount of the heatsink onto the top of the cpu should push out any air bubbles.

Either way, there's no real difference between the temps despite how you lay down the paste as long as the plate is covered.

Pea, rice, spread, or smush. It doesn't matter. I've even heard you can use mustard. Personally I use Arctic MX-4 and spread it.

I spread it out of habit because before I used Arctic Silver 5 which could cause a short if it smushed out onto the motherboard.

So always becareful even if your paste is just slightly electrically conductive.

I'd rather not fry any chips... although you got me thinking.

Lets see if an egg frys faster on a GTX 480 or AMD R9 290X

Don't have a board to support it. I think we're getting a bit offtopic here haha.

Heat it up in a glass of hot/ warm water before you apply it so it can spread easier, otherwise it's really thick

You need to boil or steam it first to get the best results.
