i7-7700K vs i5-7600K+watercooler

Let's say Zen isn't what I /we expected.

Which would be better?

Granted, gaming doesn't need that many cores(threads), but I have seen on youtube that any i5 kinda struggles in Battlefield 1-all cores on 80+% and 99-100% in more intensive combat.

I know Kaby Lake performance-wise is almost the same as Skylake, but I noticed that they are good at overclocking. Maybe a 5 GHz 7600K will be Ok in BF1? I am hoping the Watercoller will allow it to be quieter, cooler and OC more->more performance.

The kind of configuration I am thinking of is an ASUS Prime Z270-A(or a GA-Z270-UD5, depending on price and when it launches), 2x8GB Ballistix Tactical 2666Mhz/4x4GB Ripjaws 4 2800MHz , 7600K/7700K and a Kraken X61(in case of i5) to go with my S340.

Well the i7 would obviously be better for everything, are you going to be doing any video editing, or is this rig just for gaming. Are you on a budget?

I would buy a Z170 board on sale when stores/online retailers try to get rid of old stock. Then maybe you can afford a 7700K and a decent air cooler.

well, around 700 euro.

It will be used for gaming.

CS:GO,WoT,WarThunder,Battlefield 1 and 4, BeamNG...

Are Z170 boards able to run Kaby Lake? What's the point of Z270 then?

Most Z170 boards will support Kaby Lake through a BIOS update, check on the manufacturer website to be sure.

Instead of the 7700K, you could wait and see if the 6700k becomes cheaper, at least 50$ less than the 7700K to be convenient, the performance is basically the same and you can still overclock it fairly easily.

z270 has more features for the new chip and the bios is ready to support it. z170 can support Kaby lake through a BIOS update.

An i5-6600K at < 5 GHz is also okay in BF1. The usage percentages always read quite high, but in my 151 hours of experience the gameplay is still smooth at 60 FPS or better on the system in my profile.

I'm glad I didn't ask about BF1 on this forum before I bought it, I'd probably have thought I needed to build a f***ing render farm to play it.
