Cpu problem? please help.

I have a i5 4690k and recently my computer got hit, and after that i started hitting higher temperature, so i decided to check out the problem: the fan came off a bit.

So i decided to apply new thermal paste because mine was kind of damaged.

My usual idle temperatures were 25-30c

but now for some reason my idle is 30-35c  and never hits below 30, also everytime i open a program or something my temp goes up to 40-45 and gets back down to 30-35; gradually over operation of about 1 hour my idle temperature rises to 37-45c .

There is obviously an issue but I cannot find it....

do you guys have any suggestions?

Check the ALL fans, CPU cooler paste and heat sink fins and heat sink tubes. Also reseat the CPU in the socket. I'm not sure if that will help , but you could give it an attempt.

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770 @ 3.91 GHz RAM: G.Skill 4x4GB 2133Mhz DDR3 GPU: AMD HD 7970 3GB SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 500GB PSU: Corsair HX620W  Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 Case: Phanteks P400 Tempered Glass (Black) Monitor: Dell P2412H, Dell 2012H Keyboard: Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Classic Mouse: Logitech G203 Prodigy HDD: WD Black 3TB

Sound normal to me. Which cooler, which case and how is general airflow in case? Since we are talking about idle temps (which generally don't even matter), what is your room temp?

25-30C is extremely good idle temp if you are using air cooler. So it might be that your room temp has risen few degrees to cause overall increase in temps. Current idle temps are still normal. Mine idles at 37C with 34C cold boot temp.

Also changes in temps when you run something are normal. It would be weird if those didn't happen. You are using the CPU after all. Also temps raising during longer operation is normal. Fans can't remove all hot air. Or other words, air coming in isn't cold enough to lower temps inside the case. So when you continue to use PC, temps will gradually go up until they reach point where air outside case is cold enough compared to inside to keep it in balance.

Your temps are perfectly normal and idle temps are very reliant on ambient temps.

Unless your room temperature is controlled and you're testing idle with the same things running in the background, it's normal to see idle temps change.

As you run programs and put more of a load on your system, more power will be drawn and more heat generated. Eventually, the cooling and heat generated reach an equilibrium which is what you usually see after a few hours.
