I want to create a partition for Windows on a upcoming build on the ssd that will be installed. The reason behind this is because I plan to get the OEM version from Kinguin to cut back on costs.

My question: How big should I make the partition to allow for updates (I will also add to that space for essential programs that need to start on boot)?

This reason doesn't make sense why you want to partition an SSD.

FYI: OEM Windows is bonded with MOBO so if I ever want to reuse parts/upgrade MOBO I have to get a new key and reinstall windows and I don't want to have to reinstall everything els as well

That would be a problem regardless if you're using an OEM or retail copy. Also, it might be better to reinstall most of your programs anyway, because it's much faster to install apps that take over your default settings than it is to spend the time going through each file type and telling Windows to use the app you wanted instead. Among other things.

Anyway, 30GB is the minimum you should have for Windows.

I think the faster way would be to move the programs to another HDD and than move them back (I don't want to spend 1-2 days downloading GTA V because my internet is soo fast)

If you're talking about games, sure. But for other applications, it's usually faster to just reinstall them.

it will partition it automatically when you install windows on the drive and use the whole drive. You can shrink it later, but no reason to.

Don't do this. Either buy the full price or don't activate it/crack it. There is no reason to buy the cheap online keys. None of the money goes to the dev.

Won't hurt the drive at all.

yes it will

you are limiting the free space available for the SSD to perform it's operations - the lower free space is available to the SSD, the slower it gets

you will also artificially increasing wear leveling due to the fact writes will be limited to a smaller space

Still won't affect the drive.

The drive has no idea where the partitions are. The performance impact would be the same as just using up lots of space on the main partition, but that depends on the filesystem.

that's exactly the point why creating multiple partitions on a SSD is not a good idea

the SSD itself does not know what the file system does

if you have a small free space to conduct writes, the cells allocated to that address space will see increased weal reveling

the SSD cannot overwite data, the cells allocated to files marked for deletion need to go trough TRIM and if not enough free space exists to "house" new data, the file system will have to wait for TRIM to complete then and only then to write the new data
