So the new XPS13 has just 16gb of max ram.

Does it have dedicated graphics? The XPS 9650's spec leak were where the 1050 laptop information came from.

Edit: I misread that as XPS 15.

xps 13 not 15... the xps 13 never had dedicated graphics

i7-9980x 4.20mhz - 19.8 terraflops of ram - 512mb GENERIC VIDEO_CARD - 20w PSU with hyperthreading.

you dont need more than 16gb of RAM i have the previous gen of xps with 6th gen i7 and 16gb of ram and have not filled up the ram since there is no d GPU then there is no use for gaming or other gpu accelerated tasks. the oinly time ive ever filled the ram was running a VM and giving 8 Gb of the RAM

I lurk a lot

This video by "salazar studios" says otherwise? I'm assuming this is the 2017 model seeing as it has a kaby lake i7

Were is the lynch mob?

Why on earth would you pay for more than 16gb ram in a laptop?

Would be silly if you can put 64gb in this.

I think the whole point of this is that apple got destroyed because they only had 16gb's of ram in their highest end laptop. But the OP missed two important points:

- Firstly the a 16 gb xps is a hell of alot cheaper then a 16 gb macbook

- And secondly the macbook is targeted at "professionals"  who might need more than 16 gb's of ram, where as the xps is classed more as a high end business laptop.

@gonvres XPS13 is an ultrabook. The Macbook Pro 15 was meant to be a video/photo professional workstation. They operate in different price, demographic, and operating system segments.

Laptop Main

(Retired) Zbook 15: i7-6820HQ, M2000M, 32gb, 512gb SSD + 2tb HDD, 4k Dreamcolor

(Retired) Alienware 15 R3: i7-6820HK, GTX1070, 16gb, 512 SSD + 1tb HDD, 1080p

(Retired) T560: i7-6600U, HD520, 16gb, 512gb SSD, 1620p

(Retired) P650RS: i7-6820HK, 1070, 16gb, 512gb + 1tb HDD, 4k Samsung PLS

(Retired) MBP 2012 Retina: i7-3820QM, GT650M, 16gb, 512gb SSD, 1800p

The pricing of them isn't that far apart, especially at base.

An i5 XPS 13 with 8gb ram, the updated display and only a 128gb SSD is $1299.

An i5 MBP 13 with 8gb ram, the retina display and a 256gb SSD is $1499.

Upgrade the Dell to a 256gb SSD and its $1,399.

To me $100 difference puts them firmly in the same class. I would also say at that money the Mac has drastically better storage speeds and better all around build quality.

I'm really unimpressed with Dell's offerings considering the suspect amount of issues people have with them. They push low entry level prices, but spec v spec the Dell isn't really any cheaper for what in my view is a lesser product.
