So I got myself a GTX 1070 and since switching from my 960 games like GTA 5 have been stuttering occasionally and at times the FPS goes as low as 40. I've been monitoring temps and clockspeeds and they seem to be fine when the stuttering occurs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My specs are in my signature if that helps any.

It's likely the i5. Had that CPU and suffered stuttering. After I moved to the 4790k the stuttering was gone. A lot of modern games need those extra threads.

I have a feeling it might be but my friend assures me its the RAM. I was planning to upgrade both until the prices shot up for each. Its not horribly stuttery but its noticible, and in games like FH3 its sometimes unplayable. Would a higher OC help the problem in any way?

You shouldn't be getting that low of a number. Have you run DDU or uninstalled the 960 drivers from Device Manager?

for GTA 5 disable reflection MSAA...set grass to high, turn off the advanced graphics settings a bit...it should run much better.

Yeah, did that the day I got the 1070. Though I did run some benchmarks first since it all seemed to be stable to start, could that have any relation to my issues now?

Check Device Manager and see if the 950 is still in the tree. You may have to reveal hidden items.

Have you tried to lower the settings as i_build said?

Can you reinstall the chipset drivers? Is the game on the SSD or HDD? What's your RAM usage in the game?

I posted the settings I was using, they were already set to that. Also GTA is the only game that suffers from this issue, WD2 occasionally has frame drops to about 50 when looking at high density areas but I assume thats normal

8 gb ram might be a lil bit low games now use over 6 gb easily..

When ram is filled up, Operatin system create pagefile, which is space used for ram when your actual pysical ram is full. Pagefile use ur hard drive or ssd is its slow compared to RAM. it can be that that create the lag. not sure tho...
