XFX R9 Fury no post, PSU too small?

Orin

Hello everyone

I have aquired a used R9 Fury from XFX, more specifically this model: XFXForce.com

However I cannot get it to boot. The XFX-website says Minimum Power Supply Requirement : 750 watt, but I've heard that you should take that with a grain of salt.

I have now tried it with a HX650W and a CX600M (just in case the HX were dead.)

Everything starts up, except the power-phase LED's on the R9 Fury.

I am aware that the AMD cards are far from power efficient, but i though I would at least get a post... :V

They are

Mainboard: Asus P9 X79

CPU: i7-3820k @stock

RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz

SSD: Samsung 830 Pro 120GB

PSU: HX650 or CX600M

In this case it may been DOA you should first try GPU on another computer and see if it detected it in BIOS if the computer don't have powerful enough PSU.

Can you boot by just using the iGPU? If everything works without it I guess you'd have RMA it.

Edit: I think you'd have to test with another GPU since the 3820k doesn't have an iGPU?

I'm running an i7-6700K @4,7GHz and an R9 Fury with a custom PCB and a 300W BIOS OC'd to 1150mhz core on a 650W PSU without any issues. And it could just as well run off of a 550W one. It's not the PSU, it's the GPU that's dead most likely.
