Hey, I'm kinda new here and I would like to learn all about computers and how they work im really into technology and the way they function, But I don't know much about the advanced part of it all. If anyone would be willing to help me out a little and give me a push in the right direction like a good Web page that could teach me. Btw im 14 so don't get mad if I'm dumb lol.

code academy for learning to code and how computers do things

i learned about computers by looking at history of computers and how each component work also go to library are read books . that's what inspired me to get my degree in mechanical engineering.

God no, stay as far away from that site as possible.

Watch linus' old videos about building computers, it's where I learned to build my own. I built my first around your age, probably even younger (it's not too hard).

I know how to build a pc I've never done it but I know what to do, I have a pc of my own that my brother built a long time ago and I've been slowly adding parts to it (given I only get an allowance weekly) and what's bad about the site?

How long ago were you doing Codecademy in school? My experience with Codecademy has been decent so far, though I've had much better experiences with paid services such as Treehouse.

2 years ago. I used w3schools.com or I just googled "how to do this in PHP"

If you want to learn, I'd say go ahead and check out Codecademy. This site is fairly useful in some instances, but you could have better luck with professional help or videos.

An allowance weekly is still better than some. Although it is unlikely, you could look for a job at the age of 14 depending on where you live.

2 years is a decent amount of time for something to improve, and improve it has. It's much more reliable and works pretty decently for what it's supposed to be. After you learn how to do certain things, you can do most everything else when given time, references, and help from others. Given I'm not the most experienced individual, that should tell you something.

I've looked for jobs in my area and there is close to none.

Try not to go visit pages that 'teach' you stuff. If you use a PC and are middle class you are going to have to troubleshoot a lot and that's the way you learn. I  Iearnt it the same way.

Please quote me so that I know that you have replied unless it is my own topic.

freecodecamp.com is pretty okay? I wonder how freecodecamp and codeacademy compare to one another.

Firstly it's not 'code academy' it is codecademy. Secondly it will definitely not teach you how to 'code' or 'how computers do things'... At best it will teach you how to parrot basic syntax which is next to useless in the grand scheme of things...

Wait what... You claim that you have a degree yet you formulate sentences such as this:

thank you for the personal attack, my knowledge on forming sentences is obviously correlated with my job and skills in engineering. my point still stands that code academy is a good website for learning code. considering i have a well-paying job after graduating, i am doing better in life than most people who can formulate well-made sentences.

It's interesting that you would choose to see it as an attack.

There you go again miss naming the website. In any event, my point still stand that it's only good for learning how to parrot syntax... Which is largely inconsequential.

Lets try this another way then, what do you mean by this word 'code' exactly? Honestly I hate the term but I'm interested to see what you think it means.

In terms of learning how computers are built up and function, it would be worth looking back at Linus' first videos, and build logs.

If you were looking at coding, I learnt the basics of HTML and CSS from YouTube tutorials and W3Schools, and then moved onto the paid services from Treehouse.

Even if you were looking at languages such as C++ or .NET, I would still recommend learning HTML purely to understand how vital syntax and structure is in the coding world.

The key to getting better with this stuff is repetition, repetition, repetition.

yes if you could see my point you would not have talked about my ability ,you like coding for a job i don't there is nothing wrong with that. in engineering "writing a proper sentence" is not important as passing all my calc and physic classes. i have a 4.0 gpa so everything i have done in university, have worked out for the best. no offense but you have a gift of ruining people's morning with your pointless attacks. i personally like computers as a hobby nothing more learning "proper coding" is not for me. have a good day.

HTML is a markup language, this is quite different from a programming language as it describes static data.

Fair point well made - I really should have differentiated the two.
