M.2 SSD or RAID 0?

Hello everybody.

 

I just got some money from the school for finishing with a good grade or something, not the point.

 

So I'm now wondering, should I buy an exact SSD as the one I have right now and run them in RAID 0, or an M.2 SSD (particularly, a Plextor M8PeGN Series 128GB PCI Express x4 M.2 2280)

 

Second, I'm not sure if my motherboard even supports an M.2 SSD that works through PCIe x4. The site says it supports  "1 x 2280 Key M(PCIe Gen3 x4/SATA".

Or should I get an NVM SSD?

Does that mean that it does indeed support PCIEx4 SSD's?

You won't notice that much of a performance jump going from SATA3 to PCI-e SSD, more likely only your wallet will feel it xD

Anyways, Intel makes the best PCI-e SSDs in my opinion.

Raid0 kills SSD's and you don't get any faster performance really

only if you move around 400 gb 4k video files

In benchmarks, sure... in real life performance? nah...

No, you're sata lanes barely keep up with 1 ssd, 2 wouldn't do any better than 1 in this case plus raid will kill the drives unless they're slc drives

In terms of IOPS, it isn't even a fair contest between a 128GB M8Pe and a 120GB V300.

 

like a dump truck racing a crotch rocket.

I'd put SSD in RAID 0 where I need Terabytes of FAST storage. Which I don't need. 1.3Tb PCI-e SSD is more then I ever need.
