I had my computer for about 2 years now and one thing that had always bothered me was my processor. When i searched up the processor nothing had came close to being similar to it. So i was hoping someone could tell me what it is and about it. Thx

You see that (ES) at the end of the name? It's an Engineering Sample, which is actually property of Intel.

I searched about it and it seem like a bad thing. But what im really curious about was how i got it, since i first got it at frys

You have an i7 965. You can upgrade to a Xeon X5680 for 6 cores, 12 threads, 12mb cache, 3.33Ghz bclk, 288GB RAM, and a potential OC to 5Ghz.

No worries its not illegal for you to have. It is illegal for the original steward of the CPU to sell it, it was intended for loan for the purpose of designing and testing motherboards.

If you bought the CPU at retail, then it may have been a very early model...only logical reason that it is oddly showing up as an "Engineering Sample" chip.

IF you got it through some guy on eBay, then...they sold you an "Engineering Sample" chip -- okay on your end, but illegal on the seller's end.
