2 1080's or 1 titan XP

silverjay928

It's 2 on 1 because of the price of the Titan X. 2 1070 are 800 bucks, that's 400 bucks cheaper than a Titan X for more performance. That's why.

Yea but the same shit happened with the last titan and the titan before and the price gap was even less. less then half of this group could even get a titan let alone 2 1080's.

I'm sure this guys wants opinions from a performance aspect not from a wallet.

Main RIg Corsair Air 540, I7 9900k, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero, G.Skill Ripjaws 3600 32GB, 3090FE, EVGA 1000G5, Acer Nitro XZ3 2560 x 1440@240hz

Spare RIg Lian Li O11 AIR MINI, I7 4790K, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, G.Skill Ares 2400 32Gb, EVGA 1080ti, 1080sc 1070sc & 1060 SSC, EVGA 850GA, Acer KG251Q 1920x1080@240hz

Well luckily for me the 1080s win both. Just plugging my two 980ti in and attaching a bridge I get better numbers than a Titan X. Take two 1080 and use a HB bridge and your only limitation is your CPU. The Pascal Titan X actually isn't that impressive.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Haven't bought a decent card in years. Sold my 980's took my 1080 strix back. Now my 1080 sc hasn't been used in 3 weeks if not longer. I'll stick to my old cards and old setup. Wasting money upgrading just to get "better" perfocmance and end up playing worse. Waste of $2k the past 6 months on new supposedly better gear.

You realize LOTS of progress has been made since those days right?  Unless you have lots of experience with current gen SLI setups, you really shouldn't trash talk SLI.

My only other post was a question. I've spoken no trash on this thread and I find it appalling that you've singled me out for something that I did not say. I see very few issues with SLI and have experimented with the current cards, but gain no benefit from it myself.

I actually agree. I run Haswell and Maxwell, nothing out there can beat it. Not at 1440 anyway. Guess that's a good thing.

But I work the he'll out of my kit lol. Skyrim won't free itself.

Never had issues [and I never said I had issues with SLI]. Then again, I'd prefer having issues so that I can find solutions for them.

Edit: I prefer single card over two due to the overall prerequisites of the system overall when planning when it comes to efficiency and tidiness of a build.

Well I cant use two open air cooler as they run hotter then blower and my fe gets the same frames and clock as a strix. Easier to get too.

Yeah I used to have doubts too, funny how experience fixed that.

I will say though that mixing models from both AMD and Nvidia failed for me. When I had my Hybrid and Classy connected the latency was real. But that Classy was a horrible card so no idea it that was it. Two Hybrids together is buttered boobs though.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Without a doubt, Titan X (Pascal).

In a recent post of mine I talked about how the resale of my 2x Titan X (Maxwell) was far greater than that of the 980ti.  Had I gone with 2x 980ti then I would've lost more money in the long run after selling them.

Unless you are trying to play FPS games on a 4k/100hz monitor, probably the Titan XP. I have two 1080s in SLI and can confirm that the microstuttering is still a major issue even with a HB bridge. For most games I prefer disabling SLI for smoother gameplay.
