Hey all,

So I've been cooling my system with the Corsair H80i V2. I get 40 degrees Celsius at idle and around 56 under load. From what I've researched, I think I should be getting lower temps... I have a Fractal Design Nano S and an i7 6700K. I've double-checked the thermal paste. I have my system set up in a push-push configuration with two fans on the front and the cooler with the fans mounted on the back. Is this just because of the proximity of the components? Should I change the mounting of my cooler? Should I go for a push-pull config? Any help is appreciated!

Did you overclock?

It should still go to idle clocks.

But what about me getting 40 at idle?

Honestly I think that's nothing to worry about, but you could check to make sure your CPU isn't being pinged all the time by something, and thus preventing it from idling.

Checked it. It's able to run at idle clocks. CPU usage is low too. I guess that the 6700K is a toasty chip, ha ha! Thanks for the assistance!

Well as a point of reference... The i7-6700K is a 91W TDP chip. I have an i7-6700 rated for 65W TDP and it settles to about 30-35C

Though it really shouldn't matter, considering they both clock down to about the same idle clocks. Then again, I doubt a 300MHz difference in stock boost speed results in 26W more heat, so there's probably more than meets the eye here.

Wait... wait a minute... yeah, it's being pegged at 99% maximum frequency for some reason... any suggestions? BIOS issue perhaps?

I'd check if you have a rogue (one) program somewhere.

[please excuse my poor attempt at slipping in a Star Wars reference]

Ha ha it's okay. I'm a huge Star Wars nerd so you just made my day lol. That is probably my issue. Gonna run Malwarebytes and virus scans. I'm on windows 7 (the Lord's OS). Are there any known glitches/Microsoft crapware that might be causing this issue? Thank you so much for the assistance!

On Microsoft's side, the memory management system (mostly just the compressor and superfetcher) sometimes likes to misbehave, but it would be very obvious in Task Manager.

You could also look at this page and see if it helps: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2073018/processor-running-maximum-clock-speed.html
