Although I know Zen is still over a couple months away, I've been looking at dual channel 16GB (2x8GB) kits & am wondering about something. It's true I could just get Corsair Vengence DDR4 2133 with 13 CAS & be happy with that, but what would happen if I got G.SKILL TridentZ or Ripjaws V DDR4 3200 at 14 CAS & underclocked them? Would that reduce their latency below 13 & still maintain a higher speed than the budget RAM?

xD just go with the cheaper option, as ram barely makes a difference

From what I know changing ram speed and timings aren't gonna massively change performance in most situations, but what I can find suggests that 8.5ns latency is about the best that can be achieved under normal circumstances. The biggest issue you'll face with ram is if you don't have enough, but 16gb should be enough for the foreseeable future

I know a higher speed performance increase is negligible but I'm still curious about the timing aspect, also too either of the more expensive G.SKILL kits would match my build's color scheme better. Would the timings of DDR4 3200 drop below 13 or so if my new underclocked speeds were 2400 or 2666?

i have seen some benchmarks that say that 2666 mhz gives a few more fps http://techbuyersguru.com/gaming-ddr4-memory-2133-vs-26663200mhz-8gb-vs-16gb?page=4 the first one i could find dont remember the other sites sorry

Yeah I saw a video on YouTube where a guy pointed out that with Intel, 2400 is the sweet-spot in terms of realistic gains. I have the ability to drop up to $150.00 on a RAM though so I figure why not.

How much higher is your latency now?
