(WRONG SUBFORUM SORRY) 1440p 60hz IPS or 1440p 144hz TN?

lolpwnd31
Go to solution Solved by Techicolors,

i've heard plenty that the Dell monitor you've picked out is pretty damn close to IPS colors.. couple that with 1440p 144hz g-sync then it sounds like a sweet trade-off. however you ought to have powerful enough hardware to power it

WRONG SUBFORUM SORRY PLEASE IGNORE

I made a similar post before but I didn't provide enough information and had little background knowledge about the matter so I just made a new post altogether

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/68vNYr is my build

Games I'm planning to play: Overwatch, DOOM... I value how good the image is greatly but I've tried 144hz for a bit and I loved it just as much

I've been using a cheapo budget monitor so far (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/aoc-21-5-ips-led-hd-monitor-black/8163044.p?skuId=8163044) which is IPS and a while ago I decided that https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2417DG-YNY1D-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B01IOO4SGK?th=1 would be the best monitor for me - 1440p, 144hz, cheap, but TN... People say that the colors are great on the monitor are great for a TN (once calibrated, a lot of others say that it looks whitewashed on factory settings) but even so don't match up with IPS, albeit being extremely close...

Then I realized how I noticed the colors on my friend's monitor (idk which model) popped more than mine, and wondering why my own monitor didn't have that much vibrance. I realized that it was probably a better IPS panel than what I had. That realization caused me to doubt my decision and now I'm torn between getting a 1440p 60hz IPS panel rather than a 1440p 144hz TN panel.

Budget is ~$450

(tl;dr I like high framerates but I also like color quality, what do I pick :/)

i prefer a higher frequency but if you have the pyro goggles on team fortress you might want a IPS

Just based on the games you play -> I would suggest IPS. Those games really live off the colors.

I was in the same position as you and chose both... at first I wasnt ready to drop $700+ either, but then decided that I dont want to make a compromise, since I will likely keep the monitor for 4+ years.

I would save up a little more -> you won't regret it!

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

still should look pretty good even without gsync, and who knows you may make a jump to AMD soon ;) #vega
