bottleneck

Hello  

 

Would I get a bad bottleneck if I get a gtx 1070 with my i5 4570 ? I play games at 1080p Gta 5, Bf1 and games like h1z1.

If you play at 1080p then get RX 480 or 1060. 1070 is not needed at all

Yes, you will. But all of these games still do 60 fps maxed out, so you won't notice it.

If you have the money, the 1070. You will bottleneck, but the extent, depends on the game and your settings. You may lose more or less fps depending on how CPU intense the game is and how much you crank up the visual effects to make the GPU do more work.

 

I run a 1070 with a 2500K and I'm still fine. I also have a 980 Ti and that was fine too, but I moved it to my server for rendering power. Strangely though for the stuff I use, the 980 Ti is faster than my 1070 (Both OC'd).

You should be fine and u're playing on 1080p so you won't notice anything

You contradicted yourself badly. Losing any FPS is the definition of a bottleneck. The fact is that every CPU that is available today bottlenecks the GTX 1070 and above. Although it will not be noticeable, if you aren't pushing the GPU to it's limits.

I know, but there's a point where I think most people don't mind losing fps over a certain threshold. Like over 120fps or something. The reality is that there's always going to be a bottleneck somewhere. For the OP's CPU, there's going to be a bottleneck, but it's not going to be severe enough to limit his gaming at 1080p (depends on the games of course)

 

I only use my GPUs for rendering, so I'm probably not the best person to ask for gaming. You can also shift the bottleneck to the GPU by making the GPU work more by turning up visual effects.

Finally, someone who understands bottlenecking. I wasn't trying to attack you, just the contradiction had to be cleared up. 

 

I do agree, getting a 6700k for 1-2 extra fps is NOT worthwhile. But saying that it won't be bottlenecking is a lie. And while newer people try to "remove the bottleneck", I have always tried explaining, that there will always be one, no matter what. Balancing and minimizing the bottleneck is the key.

Yeah, I probably will reword my post. I know there's going to be a bottleneck, but I definitely doubt it's worth coughing up the dough for skylake / kaby lake especially since the OP has a fairly capable haswell chip that probably can fight with my 2500K.

I would still be rocking my 3570K if I hadn't got a great deal on my current 4790K ($250 new). Basically a $50 upgrade, thought why not.

So I ended up getting the 1070
