qx9650 Extreme still good for modern day systems?

Hey all,

I actually just upgraded to the qx9650 from the q8200. It's being treated terribly by a DDR2 mobo from Gateway, so I'm switching that out for an Asus DDR3 board. Gotta love ebay. :)

Anywho, my question: Is the qx9650 still good in modern day games? I thought I saw someone playing battlefield 4 60+ FPS all ultra settings with a GTX 970 on youtube or something. I'll post that link as soon as I find it again.

Does anyone with one of these chips in their system want to share some benchmarks with me? Any advice on how this chip will perform under load would be great. The DDR2 board I mentioned earlier is keeping it at 2.33mhz so I can't really get anything good out of the chip right now.

Thanks in advance guys.

I Don't Personally Have It But It Should Be better Than A Q6600.  Therefore It'll Be Decent.  Don't Pair It Up To Any High End GPU's.  Nothing Better Than An rx460

Agreed. Did you have any bottle necking issues? Also, does anyone have any graphics cards to recommend that I could pick up easy on ebay or something?

Here's that link:

Would the 680 he's using make sense in this situation? It seems to have worked out for him pretty well...

i use to have a Q6600 overclocked the 3.6ghz paired with an HD7950 (R9 280) and the CPU was not fast enough to feed the GPU at 1080p...

the Qx9650 is a bit faster than the Q6600 though but i would say an R9 380 or GTX 680/770 is pretty much the max i would pair with it.

yeah the fury was held up a lot but a 7870 was spot on. a 7950 would be a great ebay pickup i think

Not really, it is comparable to a pentium g4400 in performance, most boards support up to 8gb of ram, and you are stuck with sata 3gbps.

Definitely not worth buying used, or even buying better parts for right now though, lga 1155 boards, and sandybridge cpus have dropped down considerably in price, an i5 2400 is only about $50USD now and h61 boards can be found for like $30-$40USD. I would suggest saving up for a new platform instead of buying a ddr3 775 board.

 •E5-2670 @2.7GHz • Intel DX79SI • EVGA 970 SSC• GSkill Sniper 8Gb ddr3 • Corsair Spec 02 • Corsair RM750 • HyperX 120Gb SSD • Hitachi 2Tb HDD •

I don't have it myself, but this can put you in the right ballpark. Considering the older platform, DDR2, etc, it should put you around ~20% behind Linus' budget build for holidays 2016 (or the typical Austin Evans budget build). Then you could OC and see how far it takes you.

Well, that makes me an idiot.

Lucky me I posted this before the return on my CPU ended. I can mail it, and the cooler i got back, switch to a higher-end PSU, and that'll give me enough dough to get the 1155 system. Thanks to all who posted, you helped a lot. :)
