MSI vs EVGA

Hello I will be building my first PC soon. I'm stuck between two cards right now and wouldn't mind hearing other people opinion on MSI GTX 1080 gaming X or the EVGA FTW 1080 I eventually be buying two for 2 way SLI any advice will be great and thanks.

Whichever is cheaper.. They all OC the same and MSI and EVGA are both exception when it comes to quality and customer service. Cant go wrong either way.

I thoroughly recommend EVGA. The cards will have pretty much the same performance but EVGA has fantastic customer service in terms of RMA and product support, plus they have a neat service where if you buy it and then the 1080 Ti comes out soon, just pay them the price difference and they will upgrade you to the 1080 ti.

I pre asus everything but almost every card I've ever bought is evga. My strix destroys my sc. I'd never purchase msi anything. 

That being said, they are all the same when comparing standard pcb, custom they aren't as close.

MSI has the better card, EVGA has the best customer experience...your choice.

Gaming x has red on it, so maybe make your decision based on whether or not that is a good idea

EVGA over MSI,  for warranty/adaptability. 

IE, EVGA is cool with you adding waterworks etc.  Whereas almost every other manufacturer  considers this as warranty void.

Actually, I'd say MSI because of both product reliability and customer service. I now purchase MSI everything because I've had nothing but the best experiences with them. I always get an email back from them within 5 minutes to an hour on the high side (and I've only had a couple issues, but they do answer a lot of questions you may have). For quality get MSI. Plus yhe TwinFrozr cooling system is awesome. It's not that loud, and it's very efficient!

 

Not a fan of EVGA cards, most people I know have issues with hear when OC, something about thermal pads I think.

Also, I know looks aren't everything, but MSI does a much better job at dressing up the GPU.

Go EVGA. MSI is good too, you really can't go wrong, but EVGA has the best customer service, and they also have the Step-up program which allows you to upgrade to the newer card if it comes out withing the next 90 days of your first purchase. Which means you'll probably be able to grab a 1080ti IF it comes out. 

 

And don't quote me on this, but i think the MSI card is made out of plastic (Outside, obviously).

 

The 1080 FTW has a higher boost clock out of the box, and the temps are great. My 1080 never surpasses 65c at full load.

I have an MSI R9 380. Yes, the fans are made of plastic, but the card is still solid. There is a metal backplate. My OC 380 never gets past 55C on full load.

 

I've never owned EVGA, so I cannot say anything about their customer service. But I think we can all agree than MSI and EVGA both have better customer service than ASUS (yes, I know that wasn't even an option). I'd say pick MSI because it's my favorite, but I'd you don't have brand dedication yet, then I'd say get the one with the best deal. Price, games that come with it, or others.

Yeah, there's really no wrong choice here. Boost clocks, temperatures, the differences are negligible, getting the cheaper card i think would be the best option, except if someone plans to use EVGA's step-up program, which i haven't tried myself so i can't really give a solid opinion on it.

If I wanted to watercool the EVGA is under warranty if something goes wrong?

Damn I feel like I definitely want to watercool both cards but since it my first time it will be awhile before I try that thanks for the help man

Well I walked in microcenter and bought an evga card and a block. Had it in a loop within an hour of being home. Never looked back. Got 3 $1k under water, never even crossed my mind. Never had an issue with any card ever that I didn't cause myself.

Both cards can be watercooled. Last I'd check, msi only puts the sticker for deterrence.

Naa. Buy the 1440p Variant of it and you are good to go.
