32 GB but only 1.85 GB Usable

I have 32 GB installed on my computer but it says only 1.85 GB is usable. I tried doing the maximum memory thing on msconfig but when I get back in and open system again it still shows 1.85 GB usable. I went on msconfig and it is back to 0 for maximum memory. Any way to fix this problem?

Well, you need a 64 bit version of Windows. Although I could have sworn 4gb was the limit for 32 bit.

Alright thanks, I was thinking about upgrading it but not sure if all my files will stay.

Don't change anything with Maximum Memory or max CPU's or whatever in msconfig. It made 4 GB of my RAM not usable.

you need to reinstall, you can't "upgrade" Windows from x86 to x86-64

And honestly it doesn't make a difference.

32-bit Windows is limited to around 4GB, but you can have caching, iGPU using a bit of memory for software rendering etc, so it does narrow down to around 2GB.

Alright, can I somehow save all my files or something? Or can I just download another OS and keep the other one because I have 2 versions of Windows downloaded, 8.1 and 10.

sounds like a complete mess

save your documents and files to some external drive or to some other disk

I really don't know, at this point I am too lazy to check. But why do you ask?

Just curious because you're using a regular 6700 and not a 6700k :P

Saw an older thread you were asking which to get between 2 z170 boards.

Judging from your screen on windows you have an i7 6700, which can't be overclocked, but judging from your previous posts you probably have a z-170 motherboard, which is the only motherboard supporting skylake that can overclock the CPUs. Basically it'd be a bit of a waste if you did since you either could have gone for a 6700k and been able to OC or you could have downgraded to a slightly cheaper h170 motherboard that can't overclock but it doesn't really matter for since your CPU can't overclock anyways.

ah, I have the Z170X-Gaming 5.

There are a few extra features you do get over an h170 board though (If I remember correctly you can't sli or crossfire on an h170 and you can't OC the ram either), so it's not completely wasted. Just remember that in the future do you can save a few bucks :)

Friendly advice, next time ask someone more knowledgeable before you build the computer and install your OS :)

The thing is, my dad is an owner of an I.T company, he is quite knowledgeable but he did get this first for himself for only freaking checking emails and making me jealous. I did try it and then when my dad came something was wrong and he had to reinstall the OS. Possibly he did a mistake, well he didn't notice coz he is busy freaking checking emails on a gaming computer .*sigh*
