cpu question

Go to solution Solved by Beef Boss,

It's really just how hard they get used, what temperatures they run in on a daily basis, and how dependent or how much the CPU is used compared to other parts of the PC. If you constantly play graphic intense games without proper cooling and a good GPU that can cause stress on the CPU further.

I wouldn't say a lifetime... but certainly a long time indeed.

If the current trend of CPUs is anything to go off from, I'd say the i7 6700K will still remain relevant for at least 5 years... maybe even 10.

for quite a while the 6700k will last you for a good minimum 4 to 5 year of games.

a x99 system can potentially last you longer my 5820k will last me for minimum 5 to 8 year as more games take advantage of more cores.

thats why usually its better to buy a good cpu that will last you a while.

really good example is q6600 that beast can still run games quite well.

cpu can last for 100 year in a box if you dont use them they dont fail usually component around them fail also overclocking decrease cpu lifespan. don't worry about cpu life because by the time they die you need to replace all the component around them and they will become underpowered.

Huh, I was taking the word 'lifetime' a bit too literally it seems...

CPUs are often one of the most robust parts of a computer and will generally last longer than other parts... I'll put it this way: by the time your CPU dies, it's very likely that it will be irrelevant by then.

how did your motherboards die on you? just unexpectedly?

one was just cheap. the rest were old & bought second hand. I use to buy ex-lease computers and rebuild or sell the parts. I can't say iv ever seen a CPU give as many problems as RAM or motherboards; hard drives & PSU fail first.
