yes/no: Worth it? personally, for me speed doesn't pay the bills. i don't need it, and if you're going to wait for anything, wait for the horde of used 6700k chips to hit the market to get one cheap. No one really knows what to expect with Z270. faster DMI maybe? More USB3.1? death of SATAExpress?

not all Z170 boards will support Kaby Lake, you need to check each manufacturer and see if the mobo has a BIOS update for it

 

ASUS, GigaByte and MSI have recently released list of mobos that will get Kaby Lake support via a BIOS update

 

here's an example: GA-Z170X-SOC FORCE does not have a BIOS update for Kaby Lake http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5482#bios

while the cheaper GA-Z170-HD3 has http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5485#bios

If you're planning on upgrading soon, it's worth waiting for. Not because Kaby will be better, but because there will be more options.

If you mean your current system is literally dead, as in not working anymore, I'd probably just upgrade now to a 6700k, which would be a really big improvement from an AMD 8350 pc.

 

The 6700k was pretty much the same as the 4790k for the most part, and many are saying the 7700k will be just a touch ahead of the 6700k, so depending on if you want to wait who knows how long for them to release Kaby lake and have motherboards to support it, I'd rather just get the 6700k
