I recently built a new system from brand new parts, and when i try to boot, it freezes on "starting windows" screen and after waiting for about 10-20 seconds, it Bluescreens with the code "Machine_check_exception". However i can get into BIOS without any problem, but sometimes it also freezes randomly while in BIOS. Here is what i have found:

-It does not matter what i try to boot off of, even windows installer disk OR usb both crash, and the disk with windows boots fine on another computer.

-Its not the GPU. Same problems occur when using the iGPU with the Gpu out of the system.

-It should not be the RAM. All 16GB of the RAM is recognized in the bios, and i have tried using only 1 stick and usiong different slots. However i do not have extra DDR4 to test it with.

-I have also updated the mobo BIOS.

-Edit: Should not be an overheating problem, heatsink has been checked and temps are looking completely normal.

I also do not have any extra skylake motherboards or CPUs to test the parts with to determine is the CPU or mobo the problem.

I can't think of anything else than a faulty CPU or motherboard. Can anyone think of any other possibilities why i have thyis issue?

Parts list:

i5 6400

MSI B150M mortar arctic

ASUS GTX 1060 Dual

Corsair CX550M

Hyper 212X

Sandisk 128gb  SSD

Thank you in advance.

EDIT: Should i just RMA my CPU or mobo since they are brand new parts?

That bsod usually indicates your CPU is overheating. Double check your cooling is connected properly, remove and re apply heat paste and remount etc.

What temp is showing in uefi?

sorry to here this...

its an elimination problem/solution.... ie using different part/swapping to solve issue

if the crashes happen in bios as well when system is not fully booted it is most likely mobo issue

fyi

is there any machine check numbers? on bsod

uefi is only showing temps up to 30-40 and its not crashing if i stay in bios but immediately crashes when trying to boot indicating its not about temps, also i have reseated the cooler and the cpu both twice already.

You could check if your 4/8 pin for the CPU is properly attached? Although I'm not completely sure if you would be able to boot even into bios if it was not.

If you happen to have a local pc-store or microcenter or similar, you could ask for them to check if your mobo works with different PSU or the CPU works on a different board. Or the very least you can use a different stick of RAM.

CPU: i5 6600k @4.5GHz | GPU Zotac Amp! 1070 | RAM: Corsair vengeance 16gb | Storage: Corsair Force LE 240gb +480gb | Case: Corsair Carbide Clear C400 | PSU: Corsair RM650x | Cooler: H110i GTX

Also have taken it out and re-plugged.

Just to eliminate it could you put all ram back into the machine then grab a copy of Memtest and let it run at least until one full pass has finished without error. That could take up to 12 hours.

Also what peripherals do you have attached? Got any old hardware like webcam or joysticks attached?

What I tried to say is that if you take your pc to microcenter or any other pc component store I'm sure they will let you use one stick of ram to check if that is your problem.

Hang on a second, Win 7 might be your issue.

Could you grab a 10 ISO and try that please.

At first I used win10; this is a brand new pc, built yesterday. Same thing.

Hmmm OK then, well the usual causes for this in order of likelihood are

1) Overheating CPU

2) Bad RAM

3) Windows trying to load an outdated driver for modern hardware or trying to load a modern driver for older hardware.

You've eliminated 1 & 3 so its back to RAM, insert all your RAM & run Memtest until one full pass has finished.

Do you have a USB flash drive?

Download it and use Rufus to burn it to your drive then boot from it. If your using uefi boot mode just get the uefi version and drop all the files to USB and boot from it.

You can get Hirens or even some Linux Live CDs too.

I would bet that i wouldnt be able to voot from it either bc i cant boot off of win installer usb or disk either

It should be OK as it is a very small app that requires no drivers to operate. Its designed to work on systems that are having issues.

If you can't run memtest then the system is broken beyond anything you can reasonably fix yourself anyway (without a 2nd board, CPU and ram to test with)

Have you ever tried removing the GPU and booting from the igpu?

OK, give memtest a try and see if it still freezes, if so then I'm afraid your off to a local PC store to get this one resolved.
