I'm looking for a simple free recording program that can record sound and video of my gameplay. And I want to be able to record at 1080p. What programs are there?

OBS or OBS studio

System: i7 4790K, Hyper 212 EVO, 16 GB Crucial Ballistix, GTX 1070 Super clocked, MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition, Corsair RM 750, Corsair 750D (with 2 additional 140mm NZXT fans up top for exhaust.)

As others said, OBS Studio is one of the most popular choices. I like it, though the interface is a bit 'nerdy' as far as figuring out settings goes; for some people it may be a bit intimidating. If you have an Nvidia GPU, you could use ShadowPlay as well. I think Windows 10 even has a built in game-recording thing if you still have the 'Games' app (I think that's what it's called) installed.

Ummm, whether you've got Nvidia or AMD, they both have good tools built-in the driver that can do just what you need with a minimal performance impact. Nvidia has Nvidia Share and AMD has AMD ReLive.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION

As other have said OBS Studio it can even make use of the shadowplay codec/encoder part of a nvidia GPU to relieve strain on your CPU.  I think Jackfrags had a pretty good video on setting it up for using shadowplay and multiple audio channels for separating game audio from mic aduio ect ect.

Shadowplay for Nvida

ReLive for AMD

OR DXTory is another one that can let you have multiple audio tracks like one is mic and one is gameplay and they are not mixed together, so you can change the volume on one of them without changing the other.

It matters that you don't just give up.”
