So I have a nvidia graphics cards (obvi, cause linus and luke are Nvidia shills :) ) and I want to know do i have to have gsync to run games? Or can I play games without Gsync?

g sync is a module in monitors that allows variable refresh rate so you don't get screen tears

I would argue you only need it if you are playing really old games with a decent graphics card. For example, I was playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 the other day. Just for shits and giggles, I turned off g-sync one time. I felt like I was going to have a seizure or something with all the screen tearing...

No. You don't even need Gsync to prevent screen tearing, i don't know what the last guy meant. There's an option in every game's settings menu called V-SYNC. Turn that on and it will cap your FPS to 60fps (Assuming you have a 60hz monitor). That prevents screen tearing. It just adds a little bit of input lag, but that's something 90% of gamers have to deal with, it's barely noticeable.

tl;dr      no, its not necessary to play games in any situation

 

G-sync is a module that simply locks your framerate from your pc and your monitor to be the exact same in particular intervals such as 45, 60, 90, 120 etc. it eliminates screentearing for a better gaming experience. that's about it. if youre playing at 60 fps, the moments where your pc drops down to 30 fps for a couple seconds, the screen tear will be very noticeable. however if youre at 144 fps and it drops by 30 fps, you probably wouldn't notice it. so the time that its worth it to invest in it is 1.) if you play well below the max refresh rate of the monitor 2.) if you play towards the high end of the limit of the refresh rate of the monitor and plan to keep the monitor (and NVidia gpu's) for a very very long time. 3.) you're made of money. (also there's a possibility that you may not know how this bit works so I'll mention it, you can run a g-sync monitor with an amd gpu, it just will not be able to run g-sync, same goes for freesync with an NVidia gpu)
