CPU upgrade

I have an old 'beater' laptop that I like to mess around on and upgrade and I'm now looking at a new processor. I use the laptop for everything from video streaming and a tiny bit of editing to light gaming.

I'm looking at upgrading the processor from the current dual core 2.53 ghz to either a quad core 2.0 ghz CPU or a 3.03 ghz dual core CPU. What would be better for an all around (and better for gaming) processor?

Hold on. Which laptop? Most laptop CPUs are soldered, you can't replace them

Once you confirm you can upgrade your CPU, go for quad core. Most programs these days can benefit from those additional cores.

This article from Dell support claims you can do so.

The list of the processor is not something I would want to upgrade to. They are all Core 2 Duo. So not worth the time and upgrade
