Hey techies,

I was wondering if anyone has dabbled in gun forums. I am looking for one that is like LTT. Thanks guys.

Instructions for frustration management:  

1) Sit at desk.   2) Repeatedly slam forehead against desk.

 

I never said I was smart, just smart enough to be dangerous.

I am in Canada and I have not seen nor looked for this. I would google major gun magazines and they would have a forum.

Lol not sure I view it that way but what ever you want to think is fine. When you have questions about things you are trying to fix you go to where people have knowledge of the subject.

That's a rather odd view - wouldn't you say? What if the person likes sport shooting and wants tips on official rules and regulations? What if they hunt and need some advice on regular gun maintenance? What if they are looking to purchase a new gun, and want to see if people have hands on experience with the model they're looking at?

 

I'm all for gun control and gun safety. But I'm not "anti-gun". I have an open mind, and I'm willing to consider all view points, and the facts and logic that support each one.

 

It would be more like joining a chemists forum - they can be used for great harm (to make poisons, bombs, etc) - or they can make really cool stuff. Having an interest in guns in general doesn't automatically make you a bad person.

There are lots of them out there, try something weapon specific like AR15.com/M4Carbine.net, and see if there are any subreddits for your speciffic firearm. I am currently checking out Full30.com. Also check out some YT channels like Iraqveteran8888, TheDailyShooter and Hickok45.

I don't own a gun just yet, but if circumstances change, I would like to have a .45 caliber handgun.

I am buying an older .38 S&W. I love the feel, the weight, how it operates, everything. Most importantly, my mother loves it too. The reason I ask is because I am looking for the best practice ammunition.

To be honest, in that caliber I'd go with a S&W .357 magum. It's a bit heavier of a revolver, but it can fire .38 special rounds as well as .357 magnum ammunition (the difference is that the .357 ammo has more powder, and more kick).

 

If you want a good beginner revolver, go for something heavy. The heavier the actual gun is, the less kick it has (usually. If you have two guns with the same caliber, the heavier gun has less kick, it has more mass to resist the recoil impulse from the firing of the round)

 

Lightweight guns kick like a fucking mule.

 

Also, .357 is just fun as hell to shoot. My dad has a J-frame .357, and I love shooting it. Snake-shot, .38 special, .357 magnum rounds, it's all fun.

 

The .357 is more fun to me because of the sheer power it outputs compared to .38 special

Ketchup is better than mustard.

I can't argue on that. But my mother has handled a similair sidearm (my great grandmothers .32) so it will be very familair for her and the trigger weight is perfect for her. Really it is the perfect sidearm for her to keep at home.

Both were made around the same time but since my great grandmother wont give up the .32 I have to buy the .38.

No worries! I've had my @$$ chewed out so many times when I was a youngin that I am paranoid about it. Thank God I had men in my life that were around to teach me. Plus having some common sense helps too.

I think they were just joking about the 'Murican part, since even I will make a 'Murican joke even though I'm American. Jokes are fun.

 

I also think explaining what a gun forum is used for and dispelling the stereotype and myths about gun owners would be a good thing to do here as well since the other person wasn't being super hostile. :P

Unfortunately I'm not qualified to dispel such rumors, but common sense says that at least one people who likes guns isn't an asshole (and doesn't want to shoot everyone, isn't paranoid about people attacking them, etc etc).
