Worth selling my CPU/MOBO/RAM for "upgrade"?

Hello,

I'm using an i7 4930k, X79 Deluxe MOBO + 24GB DDR3 @ 1866MHz. I'm considering selling these, and get myself i7 6700k, MSI Z170A KRAIT GAMING 3x MOBO + 16GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz, which will perform better in games, and looks better through my tempered glass. My 4930k with it's 6 cores is max overkill for my part, as I do no rendering/heavy work and games not using more than 4 cores. The 4930k also has lower single core performance vs the 6700k. I could also perhaps overclock the 6700k even higher than my 4930k, as it's 6 vs 4 cores, correct?

Anyways, I can sell my 4930k, x79 deluxe + 24gb ddr3 for the same price as the 6700k, z170a + 16gb ddr4 @ 3200mhz will cost. The benefits to this would be better gaming performance, newest Skylake generation with 14nm, perhaps higher overclocking on CPU, and look sick for my planned white build. What do you guys think? Would love to hear from you.

Main:  1650 v2   @ 4,6GHz   -   X79 Deluxe                -   GTX 1080 @ 2000MHz   -   24GB DDR3 @ 2400MHz / CL10

Side:   i7-4790K @ 4,5GHz   -   Maximus 7 Hero        -   GTX 1070 @ 2114MHz    -  16GB DDR3 @ 2666MHz / CL12

That's a X79 mobo, you can get decent cash for it like X59, HOWEVER

before upgrade make this question:

Is my pc wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy slower?

Do I have bottlenecks?

Is it just to feel cool?

A good upgrade would be cannonlake, icelake or even tigerlake as they're 10nm.

Selling it for about $190. My PC is not slow, it's actually running really fast. The thing is, games don't use more than 3-4 cores in triple AAA titles, and I never do any editing/professional work that requires 6cores/12threads (which is what my 4930k has).

I have no bottlenecks with my current 4930k no.

It's not just to feel cool :P It's to have an all white build, and better gaming performance, as the 6700k has stronger single core performance.

The 6700k can also OC, and probably much higher, as it has lower cores. The main reason for selling, or thinking of selling, is an all white build + better gaming performance.

No.

The performance gain in games will only be about 5fps at max, not really worth selling everything, and buying all new stuff for.

The performance gain wasn't my first priority to selling. As mentioned above, I really want a full white build, which my MOBO/RAM isn't helping with atm (blue and gold colors). The question is if it's worth swapping set for set, for better looks and small improvement in games.

Paint the heatsinks on mobo and ram if looks are what your after.

A white X79 Deluxe would probably look really good.

That is an alternative. Would save me from selling CPU, MOBO + RAM for a new set, but then again, I know very little about custom painting hardware. Is it risky?

Well, my dreams are putting 100% load on all of them 12 cores (24 if I could get ur package) and to be honest - that wont be enough :)

Keep the cpu - it will hold its own.  I've punished mine severely and its still in for more punishment but it can handle all of it.

Also, consider over clocking it further. 1.4 is very decent, but if u are gaming then yo could push it higher. try 4.6.  It will get toasty, but if u can exhaust the  heat it will be OK (or u can geto 190 bucks from me for the lot :) )

Why not get a white heatsink or are you reusing it? I would just paint the block of the fan, not the fan itself

What do you mean? I'm obviously going to use the same heatsink that are attached to my X79 motherboard, see pic in signature.

RAM and mobo painting is fine, there is a guide for that

But for heatsink me and most people would highly advise on painting them
