why not Samsung 750 evo over 850 evo?

TheEndIsNear

Difference between 750 evo and 850 evo:

  1. Storage size: the 850 can go up to 2TB, but i only want 240gb so it doesn't matter?
  2. Speed: the difference in speed between both ssd should be unnoticeable in real world performance?
  3. Warranty and Reliability: 850 have extra 2 years and better reliability, but both are going to last very long anyway right? since ssd have to be continuously abused to wreck it.
  4. Price: the 750 is cheaper by 25% though...

So why a 850? Btw i'm going to use the ssd for OS and some few games.

The 850 has more software benefits from Samsung, such as RAPID mode and stuff. Honestly, the software barely impacted my system.

Which makes the 750 looks more appealing to me

850 is the newer version of the 750

No it's not.  It was never a replacement.  These 2 co-exist together.  The 850 is V-Nand, the 750 is planar TLC.

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

When there is no danger of failure there is no pleasure in success.

The Samsung 750 EVO uses cheap planar TLC memory as opposed to the 850 EVO's 3D V-NAND. Sure, outside of benchmarking, you're most likely not going to notice the difference between the two in terms of speed. But the 850 EVO is going to be significantly more durable and reliable (as evident in its longer warranty).

In fact, I would avoid the Samsung 750 EVO altogether and just shoot for something like the Crucial MX300.

No, that's a blanket statement. The Crucial MX300 and Samsung 850 EVO are 'TLC' drives. 'Planar TLC' is simply inferior.

Oh, i didn't knew the difference. So the major reason to go for 850 is for the reliability then. so does this means most lower priced ssd are also around the same reliability as the 750?

Theoretically, the 750 EVO shouldn't be much faster or reliable than something like the Trion 150. In fact, the only reason why the 750 EVO is quite expensive when comparing it to more budget-oriented SSDs is simply because it carries the Samsung branding.

If you want a decent SSD that isn't as expensive as the 850 EVO, take a look at the Crucial MX300 like I said before. Also uses 3D TLC NAND like the 850 EVO.

Like i quoted someone above, the price of MX300 here is almost the same price for 850, so i guess i'm going for 850 evo anyways.
