Hi, could someone explain to me in a very simple way what Vulcan and DirectX12 are? (I am a bit of a novice, so please make it simple.)

Since I am to lazy to put something interesting here, I will put everything, but slightly abbreviated. Here is everything:

Welcome to the internet, I will be your guide. Or something.

New types of ways that game code interacts with computers to make the games run better than previous ways (OpenGL or DirectX11). You can gain performance simply by putting the game in Vulcan or DirectX12 mode without changing any parts or setting on the computer.

@jakkuh_t That works too.

A caveat to this though is despite the promises the DX12 and Vulkan offer, video game developers have to write their code to take advantage of it. Otherwise they will do nothing at best, cause performance losses at worst. With the majority of the world still running DX11/OpenGL hardware, it will be some time before DX12/Vulkan becomes utilized to their potential.

The only game that seems to really do a good job at this is Doom.
