Hey Everyone, I am building a PC for my uncle who is 65 years old. He liked the Fractal Design Core 500 case so I have chosen that for him. He will not be doing any video editing or gaming at all and will be only browsing, however he wants it to last a while. I don't want to put two drives otherwise that will likely confuse him and that is why I opted for a single 850 evo 500gb SSD. Can you tell me if you think I should put less ram or if I could improve anything. Thanks

Power supply is way overpriced for 450W

Other than that. it's good.

keep in mind that no matter how fast the hardware, a clean install of windows every few years does wonders to a PC.

I think the power supply's overpriced as well but at the place we are buying it from at Mwave Australia, anything cheaper looked super dodgy. Hes coming from an ancient core 2 duo

Like the others already mentioned, the PSU is sort of expensive. Other than that it looks good to me.

ProTip: Don't give him the admin password / Install Teamviewer / install adblocker / replace the chrome icon with that blue E thing / set youporn as standard homepage so he doesn't need to browse the web for even fishier sides... :-)

I get that you want it to be a decent system, but honestly he probably won't notice the difference between an i5 and a G4400.

Also, there's no real need for more than 4GB of RAM.

I'd also get a cheaper SSD. No need for the 850 EVO.

Like the 750 EVO, will that be as fast as the 850 even with that being his main and only drive.

by a default install you can leave the admin pw blank and the first user registered to the system will be admin without password protection.

which is a great idea, if your uncle got a nice aunt who makes fantastic cake that you like, because you will be there every other day to eat said cake while fixing the pc :-)

yep, totally, sounds like a browser only machine anyway, so that one will do, actually it will be overkill, but will be able to run chrome in 5 years from now (most likely :-))

yep it will run word / excel and other office programs without issues. 8GB Ram will only be needed for browsing when using chrome :-)

8GB RAM is more than enough these days for the normal office / browser machine.

Way more than enough. To put it into context, I have a much, much weaker iGPU and I easily run Diablo 3 and other games.

You can get away with something like a PS1211, or SP550 from Adata. You don't need a Samsung. The difference will not be noticed.

I have 4GB of RAM and I always have around 50 tabs open.

So no, you don't need 8GB of RAM. This isn't likely to change any time soon.

That is drastically overkill.

You don't need a motherboard anywhere near that expensive, and that SSD has way, way more space than needed.

He's a lawyer though and price isn't really an issue. He just wants it to be really fast.

Spending more won't make it faster. The tasks you've listed don't require anything more than a basic processor.

It's like living in a dense city and driving a car with a 500hp engine. Sure, you could go fast, but you'll never use it.
