Okay so, I was getting positive reviews about the Cloud 2 headset, so I went out and bought it.

And someone just said it's as bad as it gets:

Anybody know what the positives/negatives are to it?

Recommendations for something else?

I already bought it, will just keep it if it's a good buy.

If it's complete trash, I'll take it back and get something else.

My list:

Mine has worked extremely well for the paste year and a half I've been using it. I ditched the dongle it came with and got a different one. Works perfectly.

Which dongle part? I haven't opened up the box yet, looks like it has multiple parts.

It comes with a USB dongle that gives you the "7.1 Surround" feature (which isn't very good) and inline controls.

Also please press reply

Hey! That's me. :D There should be a notification for this too, I think.

Anyhoo, I just have a tendency to spot high service rates and put extra weight on it (I worked some long years in RMA handling so I kind of know a trend when I see it) According to a retailer here in Finland, more than 10% of the Cloud II sold are serviced under warranty at some point. To put some perspective on that, 5% is getting pretty bad generally, depending on a type of device something like 1-2% is to be expected.

But don't worry about it if you already have it. You can always use it without the dongle or just get a new one. And it's not like the vast majority of people don't get great value without problems.

10% is better than 50,60+% ...then 5, 1-2%... it's a gamble, as it would be with most products. I'm trying to determine if I should take it back now and get something else.

USB dongle works fine? It sounds like that's the only part that has had issues.

Its not that the dongle is broken, but its just not very good quality. When audio is playing there's a constant static that plays under it.

Cloud 1 vs Cloud 2? How do they compare?

They're the same headphone. The Cloud 2 comes with an optional USB dongle. The guy that said that they were unreliable was only speaking to the  dongle, which is a piece of garbage anyway, and shouldn't be used. That does not, however, mean that the cloud 2 is a bad headset. You should really just keep the cloud 2, but get rid of the dongle.

Clouds are good, however if i'm getting one, it would be the Cloud Core or Cloud 1 (if i need accessories).

Basically the Cloud lineup, core - 1 - 2 are the same, exactly the same unit just with minor exterior changes in colors and the accessories they come with.

Core don't have any, 1 have alot of it, 2 comes with the same as 1 but with an extra usb dongle which is crappy (imo).

HyperX Cloud is the only gaming headset that i would recommend and if i'm spending more than that, its better to stick with a proper headphone and a modmic/seperate mic. Generally speaking, gaming headsets are not good at all but they provide an all in one solution for some people who don't want the hassle. However, Cloud is an exception.

I thought there were differences in specs, like frequency range and similar. I compared some headsets, thought they were different Clouds, guess they were different everythings.

What proper headphone and modmic/separate mic would you recommend?

From my experience using them, they are basically the same unit with minor exterior changes and extra accessories.

What's your budget? Do you get your items from amazon or something similar there?

Did price comparisons online. Went to local MicroCenter and the matched or beat the prices. I dropped $100 on the headset. If I don't keep it then I'll probably take it back and swap it out for something else, they have plenty of other stuff, or just money back and get another elsewhere.

Hmmm, if you can get the core or 1 (if you need the extra accessories) it would be better as you can save up extra cash. Cloud core or 1 is a good all in one solution imo.

I did some additional looking, I see how the 7.1's useless, makes sense considering it's physically 2.0 and any +#.+# would have to be virtualized. Anyway, I'm going to keep them, I checked the receipt, only paid $60 for the headset (Cloud 2). They had a deal on it at the time, and don't have one on the others, so I'd actually pay more to replace it for one of its predecessors. I see how it's the same headset anyway, except that USB "7.1" add-on.
