Thinking about changing from amd to intel

Hi so this is my first post to linustechtips as I noticed a lot of the time Linus talks about intel so I thought of changing. Current specs amd 6100 fx 3.8ghz oc black edition cpu gigabyte ga-ds3 mobo 12 gb ddr3 ram 760gtx oc edition sound blaster z avermedia capture card 650 moduler psu, cooler master case 240gb ssd 500gb hdd, looking at getting a i5 2500k as can get it for £65 and not sure on motherboard yet if anyone has any suggestions.

I use the PC for games so GTA v, 7 days to die rust, csgo and more, also streaming and recording to twitch and YouTube. The main idea is to use the best PC for gaming and the 2nd one as a streaming PC, is this cpu any good and what motherboard and ram would you suggest on a budget.

thanks

Gaming rig: Windows 10 Home 64bit Gigabyte z370 hd3p Intel I5 8600k 16Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR4 240gb SSD & 1tb HDD Sound Blaster z, 2070 RTX windforce, Cooler Master Cosmos Case

Stream rig: Windows 10 Home 64bit, Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3, Amd FX 6100, 12gb mix ddr3 ram, 1060 3gb gtx windforce oc, avermedia c985, 120gb ssd, 500gb HDD,

I would suggest an i7 2600k instead if possible, it is worth the extra money...

If not possible,

a 2500k will be an upgrade compared to the fx 6100.

You can pick any motherboard that support that cpu socket. Usualy, gigabyte are good for budget pc's. For the ram, any 2X 8 gb ddr3 1333 / 1600 mhz will do the job perfectly

My advice would be to wait for amd zen release and intel kaby lake release as it might make processors a lot cheaper(if amd performs well).

Kaby lake doesn't look like its worth waiting for performance wise.

ok thanks for the replies so quick, wow great community here :D ok ill look into the intel i7 2700 see if thats around similar price. Which pc would be ideal for the gaming and which would be better as the streaming pc. Reason building/having a 2nd pc is because my current build as soon as i hit stream or record certain games e.g GTA V have a melt down and go to around 15 - 20 fps without streaming/recording they sit at 50 - 60 fps. thanks

With an i7 it will be fine for streaming. Try to look for used i7 3770(k)s as well.

2600Ks can be found more cheaply than 3770Ks, just a heads up.

There was someone on the boards looking to sell their 2500K setup. It was posted in the classifieds. I'm on moble right now but I'll see if I can link them. Even if you don't want the processor, it is a very high end motherboard and I would advise contacting them.

Yeah, I am trying to sell off the main parts of my PC, the CPU (2500K), Motherboard (ASUS P8Z77-V Pro), and 16GB of DDR3 (1600MHz, 4 x 4GB sticks).

I'm not sure if shipping would too much for you though. Ideally I'm trying to sell the parts as a set because I know I'm more than likely going to end up with the 2500K alone if I part it out.

I would see if you can try to find a 2600K or 2700K if you like overclocking. I'm more surprised you can find 2500Ks for that cheap. Here in the US, I see them go for $90ish still on ebay.

oh thats cool sounds decent rig and yea more then likely would be a fair bit to ship to the UK as was looking at parts over in US and cost nearly as much as the part to ship XD, and ok ill have a look into them 2 as well open to ideas as now gotta wait til after xmas.

Yea seen they go quite well on ebay but found a seller on there good feedback selling for £65 so was like awesome, just need locate a board as well as I dont seem find what is a decent but not too expensive board with the 1155 socket on mainly 1151.

Just stumbled across for a little more the i7 2600K is that one any good. thanks

Yeah, I would try to find a Z77 board if possible.

Yeah, the 2600K is really good. It's great when overclocked. I regret not coughing up more at the time when I bought the 2500K new back in 2011 to get a 2600K...It's pretty much a higher clocked 2500K with hyper threading.

Cheers i will certainly look into it, was also looking at the i5 4670k as its more then the 2500k but not overly expensive as found some for around £120 - £150 on ebay Used, That might be worth saving and getting, also looks like that uses the 1151 socket instead.
