I don't think any of them will work. You can't convert a Digital (DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI) to an Analog signal without some sort of active converter.

DVI-I is an exception as there are extra pins FOR Analog.

 

The all-new Radeon R9-290X doesn't have DVI-I or Analog outputs on it; they are all either DisplayPort, HDMI, or Dual-Link DVI (DVI-D).

 

 

Time to get out of the 1980's and get into the 21st century technology IMO.

No...because VGA was first introduced in 1987.

Computer companies (AMD for an example) are trying to phase them out now. Well...a lot of companies have been trying in the last couple years, but people just can't learn to let go...

I would upgrade the monitor first before upgrading the GPU. R9-290X Is waaaay overkill for 1440x900 anyways.

when i get it first i will make the temp at 40 and see what kind of perfomance i will get

I'd stick with whatever card you have now until you can buy the monitor and card at the same time, no use wasting your money on an active adapter. If you really want to get one, It wouldn't really matter which TBH. both will introduce latency.

 

I really don't think there is anything wrong with VGA. On one monitor, going from a good high quality VGA cable to DVI has no difference on the same monitor. The only reason I'd need DVI over VGA is for 1080p and up. Just because its digital doesn't mean its better. (MDA, CGA, MCGA, and EGA are all digital. They suck ass compared to VGA)
