So I'm upgrading my motherboard. I have an i5 with the stock cooler. Will I need new thermal paste when I change motherboard?

Thermal paste is best not reused. If you are removing the heatsink from the cpu. It is VERY MUCH advised to change thermal paste.

I think the better question is "Should I change my CPU cooler?". /s

Yes, you will. I'd recommend getting AS5 or something similar unless you want to go for the best TIM.

As the others said chaning your thermal paste is more of a must than a could. Think of it as the link between your cpu and cooler (thermal link that is). Not having a good one will result in bad cooling or even worse.

For the stock cooler, run some tests and see what's your CPU temp. If you have the extra money get a fan for your socket (take into account the case size) and with both this and the termal paste change you will have great results.
