XEON FOR GAMING !?!

Go to solution Solved by GeorgeKellow,

Yesterday, I saw a 2630v4 ES on ebay for only 230$ CAD. I am thinking about getting it, but I don't know if the 6700k might be better for gaming. The 2630v4 have a 2,1 ghz base clock, and it contains 10 cores, probably enough for dx12. If I get a 6700k, I will be overclocking it to 4,6 ghz. I don't plan on any editing or rendering, and I will be gaming at ultra wide with the pg348q. THe cost is the same because I need to get x99 platform if I buy the xeon. 2630v4 : http://www.cafr.ebay.ca/itm/Intel-Xeon-E5-2630-V4-ES-QHVK-10Core-2-1GHz-85W-25MB-LGA2011-3-Processor-CPU-/201719520349?hash=item2ef76b9c5d:g:onwAAOSwdzVXrZUy (Also bonus question : is there any added cost other than shipping because it come from Hong-Kong ?

So true it hurts

The Xeon doesn't support overclocking so I'd go with the i7 6700K.

the 6700K will be much better for gaming. when gaming, you  really want higher performing cores over the amount of cores. the 6700K is the go-to gaming performance king right now.

The 10 cores at 2.1GHz will do worse for those games that favor many calculations per second.

2things:

1. The 6700k will decimate the xeon in gaming.

2. saying "I will be overclocking it to 4.6 ghz isnt necessarily true. You cannot just put in a value and it is automatically stable. Different chips will net you different results. I have a friend with a 6700k @4.6 while mine only goes to 4.5.

The only Xeon good for gaming right now is E3 1230 V5 and it is 3.8GHz boost clock 4 cores 8 threads new for about $260.

Personally I think it is great bang for the buck but you will need C232 motherboard and cooler since it has no boxed cooler.

It is the same chip as i7 6700 but clocked slightly lower and no integrated graphics.

Unless you have a higher clock speed.

That's what I'm saying. Having a few high clock cores will do better.

Xeons are usable in any board.
