Hi, I had bought this Motherboard and CPU bundle a few months ago and only just decided to clean the south and north bridge/ cpu and add new thermal paste. So when I got to the CPU (Q6600) I was a bit shocked because I do not know if this is supposed to be looking like that. The CPU is normally Grey or silver looking but when I took the cooler off the CPU I am seeing a CPU which has got like copper on the CPU. I will upload a picture later but I've never seen something like this before and decided to ask on here. If anyone knows if it is normal then that's fine but I was thinking maybe it might be some fake CPU. It is a Q6600 Core 2 quad.

Thanks.

Oh Is it fine to still use. Thanks

It's an old trick called lapping. Used to do it to make a more pure surface for better heat transfer. It's what we nutbars did before de-lidding was a thing.

Oh aha but even de-lidding does not really help much. Well not that I have seen any way. Thanks for telling me about it being could lapping, I never knew that.
