Hi guys,

I'm soon gonna build a gaming and editing pc. Now my question is which processor should i choose? I think it is kind of a hard choice for me because if i would buy the intel i7 6700K i would need a motherboard with an LGA 1151 socket and with a 6800K i would need a LGA 2011-v3 socket. And if i get the 6700K i wouldn't be able to upgrade to a 6850K or something without getting an other motherboard  and ram (From dual to quad channel). And then upgrading would get pretty expensive, cuz those CPU are already expensive!

So what would you guys choose in this kind of situation, and which motherboard should i choose with the 6800K intead of the Asus ROG Alpha Hero VIII that i now have in my plan.

More info should be in my pcppartpicker list;

PCPartPicker List

Thanks,

Jamie

EDIT: Maybe someone wants to see my pcpartpicker list, and see if its a little bit umm.... yeah good?

MORE EDIT: Changed my graphics card on pcpartpicker, i already wanted that one but forgot to change before sharing.

You also don't really need that motherboard, it's a little expensive to me.  You can probably get an MSI one for $50 cheaper that will be exactly the same.

Either the Hero or Ranger look good and stick with the design of the Hero Alpha. I don't think anything else has the gray metallic kinda design these do. The Hero Alpha just has wifi so unless you really can't get hard wire ethernet then sure go for it or get the Ranger which is $145 with MIR from Newegg and add a decent $20-30 PCIe wifi card.  Or if you really want the armor looking stuff on the left of the mobo over the rear IO then get the Hero and hard wire.

Also, I know Dominator Platinum looks good but it is way overpriced, you can get Corsair LPX for $50 less.

I'd get a 5820k, with any X99-board which fits your budget.

The reason i'd go with a 5820k is, that you can OC a 5820k further (6800k has higher IPC however), and it is cheaper. That way you get pretty much the same performance with lower cost.

There are some drawbacks, a 5820k supports 64GB of RAM max, a 6800k supports 128GB max for example.

But those are things, that don't really matter in my oppinion.

Also, if you go for X99, go for a quad-channel kit of RAM right of the bat, also there is (in my oppinion) no reason to go with high-speed dominators other that looks (which look pretty freaking cool, I will admit). A Quad-Channel kit of Corsair LPX @2666MHz or 2800MHz will do just fine.

The last thing I would change is the storage.

A 120GB SSD will fill up very fast. I´d go for at least 250GB, if not 500GB.

Also, is there any reason you are going for a 5900rpm HDD?

If not, get a 7200rpm one, for example from Seagate (I think they are called Seagate Desktop now), or a WD Black, if you want some more reliability.

Please quote me in any answers to my posts, so that I can read them easily and don´t forget about them. Thanks!

I love spending my time with PC tinkering, networking and server-stuff.

Prices like from Newegg don't matter. I live in the Netherlands and i'd rather buy everything from Dutch stores. I see you changed the psu, memory, motherboard and CPU. Now i still don't really now what to do with the cpu, ram, motherboard thing. But the psu is reasoned to be platinum....

I need the wifi thing, and like it to be build in. The Dominator Platinums just look super cool to me!

No one said i had a budget.... Right? I'il look into the 5820K. The Dominators loo....... ^^^

I did not saw that, thanks for saying. I'il look into that. But in the Netherlands they almost sell NO Black or Blue, so i'il go red then. Which is also good possible.

Any more?

Reds are fine too, yes.

You don't have a fixed budget, but I wrote that, because you can of course buy a 500$+ board, but not everyone wants to spend that much on a board.

Yeeh, right so i'il get a WD Red 4TB i think. And true its like i won't spend 500$ on a motherboard. That doen't makes sense..... Right? Except if we're linus of course!
