thermal pads or heatsinks for 950 pro ?

hi

 

i have a mini itx case (SilverStone ML08B-H) and MoBo that has the M.2 slot on the back (ASUS Z170I PRO GAMING)

 

so my samsung 950 pro get hot all the time and i think it throttle  

 

this is the temps after stressing it with CrystalDiskMark  (note ambient temps 22 C) 

 

so which will be better thermal pads or heatsinks

I would not know.

 

Although, I wouldn't think the heatsinks would help any. With the m.2 on the back of the motherboard, there'd be zero air flow, which would make those heatsinks (I'd imagine) to go to waste since there'd be no air to take away heat they'd take from the component

If you use your 950 as a "normal" user, playing games, boot drive, browsing etc.. You will never recognize thermal throttling @ your 950 Pro

 

Very few programs (I mean  not benchmark programms) will actually be able to read from a Samsung 950 Pro at full speed for more than a very short period of time - often the drive will have to regularly wait on the CPU or some other component to actually process the data. In truth, the most common situation you might run throttling is going to be if you have two M.2 drives and you are copying large amounts of data from one drive to the other.

 

 

But you have to know:

The ambient temperature within the system has a massive effect on when the drive throttles. It makes sense that a drive will throttle sooner in a hotter environment.

The overheating only occurs with heavy sustained writes. If your GPU is blocking the M.2, move it.

You will recognize always thermal throttling @ heavy ssd load (which is not possible for normal user) without air cooling @m.2 SLot, no matter where the slot is , the question is "When"?

it also ideal at 62 C which is too high

 

i read somewhere that using small heatsinks or pads in these tight itx cases could help a lot

 

the question is which one to choose ?

I an also interested in this point for my dual 950's
