Both will do the job. 6700K is a bit better for gaming and the 6800K is quite a bit better for heavier tasks due to additional two cores. 5820K might be priced better than a 6800K so you can give that a shot instead and go in the middle between 6700K and 6800K, cause in terms of performance, 6800K and 5820K are essentially the same once overclocked.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

Depends on what software your using to edit

Vegas, stick to an i5

Adobe suite, 6700

Nothing higher than that

6800k's extra cores isn't worth the premium for the small performance edge.

If you're planning on doing recording gameplay while playing at higher res or higher quality recording, the more cores can help with that a lot. Render times and other tasks for what he wants to do like video editing and rendering can also be improved a lot by the extra two cores. It depends on what software he uses, but the 6800k can give a pretty damn good boost over the 6700k.

MSI GE72 Apache Pro-242 - (5700HQ : 970M : 16gb RAM : 17.3" : Win10 : 1TB HDD : Razer Anansi : Some mouse) - hooked up to a 34UM58-P (WFHD) in dual screen

iPad Air 2 (for school)

iPhone 6

Xbox One Forza 6 Limited Edition Blue

In synthetic benchmarks yes, but $100 for a 3-4 second difference is not worth it...

Like I said, the two most popular software to "make cod edits"

The only pro I see in x99 is more dimm slots for ram for after effects, cause more ram per thread.

If this was a professional setup, that is another story..

6800k will basically let you render + play games at the same time and it will help a lot for rendering. If you have money go for 6800k

im not going to use it while gaming and rendering,

but if ill have more money ill go for 6800k instead of 6700k

my choice is currently at i7 6700k because its good for gaming

On PC I'd suggest OBS but that does require a little more horsepower but a 6700k should be fine but 6800k can provide a much better experience. If you're using an Elgato or something like that for console then it doesn't really matter for CPU as long as it's decent and maybe a quad-core like an i5 or better.

ShadowPlay will be fine and you might even consider an i5 then, but 6700k should be perfectly fine for you. If you need help with other parts of the build, pur your build up on another thread or this one
