PS4 Plus required for internet?

I was just wondering if the PS4 required a subscription to access the internet. I'm not talking about playing games online, but just things like going on youtube/netflix. Do you need a PS4 Plus subscription to access the internet?

just found some articles confirming what I thought. Now the real question is why would you get an Nvidia Shield TV over a ps4?

Haha, I was about to complain about needing XBox Live Gold to watch Netflix, youtube, PBS, and anything other than single player gaming or video off a disc from it.

You don't need it for internet but you do need it for multiplayer.
