Unless you're into buying physical media, no.

These days, nearly everything can be done either digitally or through a USB installation. Even Windows can now be bought with a USB install now.

I haven't had a legitimate use for my optical drive in years really. Hell the last physical game disc I bought, were GTA San Andreas and GuildWars 1, which I bought at the same time back in 2005.

Yeah this is true. However, I am getting one for my build because I have had issues with booting from USB's and backups in the past, and I currently use discs for these because they are just more reliable. Also, if you ever plan on buying a movie disc such as a blu ray you will need an optical drive.

Do I need a optical drive for a gaming pc?

While you don't need one, it's always handy to have one lying around for that odd Disc you need to burn or read.

I'd grab an external USB DVD Drive though - there's literally no point in buying an internal drive these days if you don't use it on a regular basis.

Desktop: KiRaShi-Intel-2022 (i5-12600K, 5060 Ti) Mobile: Moto Razr 50 Ultra (Razr+ 2024) | 30GB CAN+US+MEX $30/month
Laptop: Lenovo Yoga 7i (16") 82UF0015US (i7-12700H, 16GB/2TB RAM/SSD, A370M GPU) Tablet: Lenovo Tab Plus (256GB)
Camera: Canon M6 Mark II | Canon Rebel T1i (500D) | Canon SX280 Music: Spotify Premium (CIRCA '08)

I am going the Getto way, because an internal one is cheaper than an external.

So i got an used intern one and when ever I need it I open up my PC plug it in with some sata and leave it open for the time I need it xD

FOLDING MONTH 2021! GOGOGO and save on some heating costs 🙂

You don't need one but I always surprise myself by how useful it can be.

Also, I have a big library of blu ray discs and I like being able to watch them on my PC.

GTX 3080 Ti ROG | Ryzen 5600X | MSI Tomahawk B550 | 32GB 3600MHz | Corsair 850e | HAF X | WD SN850X | Asus MG287Q 1440p 144Hz
