PC Shuts Off Completely When Touched Case

I just built my first PC, and everything has been humming along absolutely smoothly except for one thing. When I touched the side of my metal case, I heard some static and all of a sudden all of the fans had shut off and the PC shut down.

 

Is this something to do with cable management? As a first timer, it is nothing to be proud of, although I do plan on doing a more thorough job of it soon. Have any of you experienced similar issues? How did you fix it?

 

Everything is brand new, and I have the PC on top of a flat piece of wood in my room, connected to the wall with a power adapter for 6 outlets (I need 3, and the wall only provides 2), and this may also be a source of the issue. Or could the carpet in my room be a source of excess static electricity?

That sounds like a short, and that sounds bad.
Make sure no wires are exposed, your PSU is correctly grounded and plugged into a grounded socket, and you don't electrocute yourself.

Did you install the standoffs? Is your power button properly soldered?

Sounds to me like a an internal electrical issue.

I gues you have somewhere a blank cable touching your side housing so your case is under voltage.

one thing out of ordinary i can think of is if ur wall socket is properly grounded? I have seen some bad work where the ground wire is not connected properly in to the socket. but more probable issue is from your pc side: a short some where.

Thanks. I do have some empty PSU cords in there, I guess I could try elevating those from touching the case. I'll also try moving to a different wall socket and rearranging the wires.

I have also decided just using the direct wall socket instead of the power splitter on the wall, and moved my speaker plug to a different socket.

And yes, I did install all of the motherboard mounts, although double checking couldn't hurt.

The computer did turn on soon after that, I forgot to mention that in my first post. I decided to shut it down anyways and checked the power cord. As it turns out it was not fully plugged into the PSU, so I plugged that in all the way, and it seems to working fine now. However, I shall be cleaning up the cable management inside anyways.

 

Hopefully I don't encounter any problems from here on out.
