So currently i have WD Blue 1tb, (https://gyazo.com/9ae523a8a6add3268b9e0e82f41f59e4) and its barely full, and it loads really fast. so is an SSD worth the upgrade? the load time is about 20-25 seconds which is decent, but should i still upgrade? my next plan is to get a new monitor (21:9 or 144 htz) or a new headset? HELP

If you're content with the boot time, go for the monitor or headset.

To date, regardless of the countless build mistakes and money spent on my rig, the two best purchases have been my SSD and my ultrawide monitors. SSD's for me were such a dramatic improvement in r/w that I throw one into every rig I own and everyone else I know owns. As others have already stated, if youre content with your speeds, than stick with your hdd and invest elsewhere.

Hi there :)

If you are happy with your WD Blue I don't think it's worth the trouble of reinstalling the OS to a SSD.

A Solid State Drive would give you a great boost to your loading times and the overall system's responsiveness but it really depends on what makes you happy. Adding a SSD later on is always an option so if you are good with your system's current performance you may as well upgrade some peripherals.

Mind that cloning a HDD on a SSD isn't really recommended as there are potential driver and compatibility issues and other problems that may arise from that.

What do you use your system for?

As a good future upgrade I could suggest checking out WD Blue SSD. :)

Let me know if you have any questions!

When you are hammering a bootable mechanical drive with reads and writes, aka.. installing something, windows maybe updating.. a range of simple things can ruin the snappy feel a newly built machine should give.

SSD -system still snappy when multi-tasking of the boot drive.

M-HDD - file queues are longer, things take longer to open, way more pronounced when multi-tasking.

I have built 2x i5 6400 machines.

One had an SSD and one did not due to budget. But its a night and day difference in time saved by mot having to wait for long when doing multiple things at once..

The usability of the machine will improve greatly.

If you can afford to go the SSD route then I would recommend it or give another machine eith an SSD a good go first... a store maybe likely be able to show you how a pc feels with an ssd vs one without.

Games and whatnot..

The two machines I built.

Had exactly same GPUs being RX470s  and performed the exact same in all games tested whether mechanical or ssd driven.

I do prefer SSDs for windows primarilly and thats what I recommend.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I'm mainly a student and a gamer. So I guess the SSD is for long term reliability and just fast load times.

EVERY modern PC build should have an SSD as a Primary boot device, hell even my dads Pentium dual core Toshiba laptop from like 5-6 years ago runs noticeably better with the SSD over his old HDD.

Considering the fact that Windows 8/10 both utilize 100% disk read/write cycles when downloading updates, absolutely.

I would say it is more for better overall responsiveness as it would make everything seem more snappy, regardless if you see improvements in different applications. Things like opening internet browsers, applications, documents, browsing your system, running anti-malware applications, updates, etc. would feel a lot smoother and more responsive. I wouldn't say it's a must but it's definitely something to consider provided you have the budget and the will to reinstall your OS and all your applications and games.

The reliability can be arguable as SSDs are nearly impossible to recover data from in case they fail and they do have a limited amount of write cycles.

Load times would be improved only on the things installed on the SSD. If you have your OS on the SSD and run a game off the HDD it would still load the same way as before.
