Greetings everyone,

If you've seen some of my earlier posts you'll have noticed my friend and I's journey to build a server. We have come to the position now of purchasing RAM, any suggestions as to look for cheaper, older model ram? We need DDR2 server quality Ram for our Motherboard. Any help would be much appreciated!

Ddr2 ecc has two different types with different sockets.

FB dimms (fully buffered) big heatspreader, and use about 12W a dimm, run really hot and need active cooling.

registered ecc, same socket as ddr2, but are ecc.

 •E5-2670 @2.7GHz • Intel DX79SI • EVGA 970 SSC• GSkill Sniper 8Gb ddr3 • Corsair Spec 02 • Corsair RM750 • HyperX 120Gb SSD • Hitachi 2Tb HDD •

There is also ECC unbuffered, but that is more for workstations.
