I'm looking at getting a new computer and can't decide between building it myself or buying used off craigslist. 

 

My build would be:

--Intel Core i7 3930K SandyBridge-E 32nm 6 core + Hyper Threading (currently running on factory clock at 3.2Ghz) (ran at an overclock of 4.0Ghz for 6 months during build's infancy, then reset to factory)
--16 GB DDR3 (4x4GB) Corsair CMP16GX3M4X1866C9 (Dominator DDR3-1866) currently clocked at 802.1 Mhz w/ a 1866 Mhz top end.
--ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Model P9X79 (LGA2011)

--NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 
--250GB Samsung 850 EVO (will do a complete and fresh re-install of Win7 with whichever Hard drive config buyer wishes)

Get the craigslist pc, for $400 its a steal

Yeah the craigslist one is amazing for $400.

you could then just get another GPU.

The craiglist one is actually a very good deal, get it with a new card like the RX 470 or 1050 Ti. Maybe even the 1060 or RX 480 if you can afford them.

Get the Craigslist computer and see if he'll knock the price down for not including the video card.

Then buy a GTX 1060.

He already took off a second SSD, so he "dropped" his price by 200. Is there anything specific you'd do to make sure everything is okay with the computer?

Run aida64 check the cpu temps, run a smart scan on the ssd and just keep and eye out for temps over a few weeks, and also any noises
