I personally would recommend the i3 6100 with the 470 as @TheRandomness said

GPU performance matters more than the CPU. 

i3 is not the fastest chip but it will be 100% fine for the most games

If he's planning to play BF1 he'll want to get an i5.

I saw the 2tb hdd in someone else's pc build list so I don't know how reliable it will be

Should be fine with the 6100... BF1 is pretty nicely optimized 

yes the i5 would give a few more FPS but I personally played BF1 on a i3 and a rx480 the CPU load was high but everything went nice and smooth

Yup in the new driver I forgot what is it called but it has game optimization and automatic driver updates

Thoshiba should be ok 

i never had one failing 

ok personally I am a WD fan but all my thoshibas are fine to

maybe not the fastest but for mass storage and stuff it will be ok
