Help with Acer G257HU smidpx

3 Minute Reviewer

Hey there! So I just got this 1440p monitor for my future PC build. But as of right now I am plugging it into my old laptop. When I go to pick a resolution for the screen it won't go higher than 1080p, is this because of the laptop or did I  get a messed up monitor? Or is there a way to get around this? Thanks for the help!

I'm using a DVI to HDMI to mini HDMI dongle because my laptop is kinda a turd, maybe that has something to do with it? Do you think that once I have my PC build and I can just go DVI to DVI it'll be able to display in 1440p?

It definitely has to do with the dongle you have, I have the same monitor and recently did a DP to HDMI dongle adapter to allow my vive to use the HDMI port and it would not detect anything above 1080p, I even tried another dongle rated at HDMI 2.0 and still no luck. With a pure HDMI 2.0 cable or a DP cable it does not have the same problem.

Yeah I'm using a 3 year old Lenovo yoga with an i5, I highly doubt it'll be able to kick out 1440p, I'll just wait till I get my 1070 up and running for it to reach its max potential, thanks for the input my man
