So my NAS is anally-retentive about having all the fans plugged in (which isn't necessary), and I was wondering: Is there a cable that plugs into a PWM header (with a PWM fan plugged into that, of course), and then also has another lead coming from it with just the RPM signal? I know Arctic does this with some of their fans (such as the F9 PWM PST), and I can't exactly just buy one of those since I don't think they come in a 70mm variant.

Couldnt you just splice the wire for RPM, and add a second wire onto it yourself.

Im not sure what purpose you would have for it, but that might work

Normally I would, but I'd only be able to twist the wires together and then tape them off, which (at least for me) isn't really acceptable for a 24/7 machine.

You can get small Y splitters i would imagine, which you would then crimp

im pretty sure you could get some sort of controler (say an arduino) and control the fans with that, and it could tell you what the rpm is.

Would something like this not work where it takes auxiliary power and only a PWM control and RPM line.

It might work. I know this board is weird AF, and I don't know if it controls via voltage or PWM. I do know that when a PWM fan is plugged in it will actually bother to slow them down.

As long as it outputs a PWM signal that should work then xD, I would just run a test first with a 3 pin fan to see if it varies the speed if it's always at max then it should be PWM based control.

Normal Y-splitters wouldn't work since 2nd header won't have rpm. It just doesn't need it as rpm reading is takent from another fan.
